Bon dimanche. Fiona. Voilà mon travail: Dear new american citizens, First, I would like to attest you my feelings about representing the american government and being the ambassador of freedom on this fantastic place of Ellis Island, which is the symbol of immigration. In some days, in somes hours, you will start a new life, I hope a succeding one, the one that you imagined in immigrating here, but I'm convinced that you are going to do the best to succed in ,in order to know the best instants of your life, here in america, in New York city. You have wondeful prospects, you are, since now, american residents, you have joined the country of liberty (look at the wondeful statue in the New York city harbour!) , the country which give a chance to everyone. Take your destiny in your hands, grab the chance we granted to you and give it back to America in succeeding in your new life. As far as I am concerned, it's now my job to remind you some values of my, of our country ! First, even if the USA are a wecoming state, you have the duty to take part in his everydaylife, to be integrate in it, to respect his traditions, his culture and to learn about it. As every american citizens, you will have to be careful about the different restrictions, about the rules we put in place in order that everyone could live in a serene country, with a guaranteed security. But, if I'm so excited today to express myself, in front of you, it's because of Adam O'Driscoll... You, certainly, don't know him. He is just like you, everybody, one of the new american residents who immigrate to the US. He has a family : a wife and two young childrens, he comes from Dublin where he was a potato producer. But he decided to immigrate in the US when started the huge starvation dued to the farming crisis. Adam came to start a fresh life, to allow his family to know something else than poverty and to make sure his children will study to have a safe work in the future and to succeed in their lifes. What is immigration ? It's Adam O'Driscoll. He hasn't done something in particular but he represents exactly what I want you to be : someone who has prospects for himself and his family, someone who has faith in his destiny, who has the conviction that he is able to succeed one day. And if I emphasize as much, about his example, it's because he is the 100 000th people granted of the american citizenship. Beyond this extraordinary number, it's, in reality, a fantastic symbol we have in front of you. The symbol of what America has done for many years and what we'll continue to do: welcoming immigrants and permit them to have a place in our society to put them forward and to make a point to their qualities. So, my dear compatriots, go ahead, have a lot of dreams, of aims, like Adam O'Driscoll, and realize them to expect a futur full of happiness and succeeds for you, and certainly for your family. And then you'll know what we call the American dream Long live the immigration and long live the United States of America
