Bonjour.

Walt Disney:

For the Mickey and Minnie’s appearance, there are a lot of legends. But the most recurent tells that Walter Disney would have wanted to invent an animal we could love straightaway and that the audiencehad never seen before.

In 1928, the first cartoon appears with, for the first role, a mouse.

First, we called him « Mortimer Mouse » but thanks to the intervention of Disney’s wife (Lilly Disney), this mouse had been renamed « Mickey Mouse ». This name souds more familiar and nice, at the opposite of « Mortimer » who was too sophisticated.

Walt and Ub have wrotten a story inspired of the news.

ð
« The first traverse without touchdown of the Atlantic by air and by Charles Lindbergh »

Plane Crazy

... Projected in a small cinema (a district cinema) in 1928.

Unfortunately, this animation wasn’t a success, but Disney believed in Mickey Mouse and produced others cartoons:

·
Gallopin’ Gaucho

·
The singer of jazz

… But Mickey wasn’t very popular and he was forgotten by the audience because, and Disney understood it quickly, the animation missed sound.

Thus, Walter Disney prepared the third cartoon : Steamboat Willie

It was after long, long weeks of works to synchronise pictures and sound tracks that the film was finished. Rested again to find a buyer …

Eventually, one of the Disney’s promoter friend, Harry Reichenbach, proposed to him to project the film during two weeks at the « Colonie Theatre » of New York.

ð
Steamboat Willie was a great success !

Quickly, Plane Crazy, Gallopin’ Gaucho and, the latest, The Barn Dance, were updated through the sound track !

Mickey Mouse, himself, was on the way to the success !

Goofy, himself, came in 1932. First, we called him Dippy Dawg. This appelation gave him his statue of dog. He begans with short roles but he put the screen little by little, for a more time thanks to his short and nonchalant smile and his casual air, that amused a lot of member of the audience.

In the pure holliwoodian tradition, his success made his change of name. Dippy Dawg becomes Dippy the Goof (in french : Dippy le dingue) and finally, Goofy (in french : Dingo).

White-Snow (in french : Blanche-Neige)has been followed by Fantasia and Pinocchio, while, in 1941, began the contribution of Walt Disney at the war effort.

In May 1939, when Walt Disney received a request for the creation of badges for the Navy, Walt Disney didn’t imagine that two years later, his studios created one service where a lot of draftsmen worked hard feet, in order to answer hundreds of similar requests.

At the beginning of the war, the government had prohibited all representation with commercial character on the badges.

It is cause of that that we found the ordinary animals as submarine’s fish, savage cat or dog, threatening insect,… With, of course, the personal touch of Disney !

But the U.S.S. Award wanted Pluto as mascot. The badge shows the dog, crossing an ocean of bombs by swim, with a brush attached to his tail.

Thus, came the beginning of the mascots.

Donald was represented more often than the others : under more 200 different appearances (no doubt cause of his famous character !) Even the Empire of Britain wanted it ! The Captain of the Illustrious asked that his badge represents Donald i a heroic admiral, on board the Illustrious.

Thus Disney created also several military badges for :

- Escadrons of bombardiers

- Interceptors and fighter groups

- Campains and coastal artillery

- Submarine bases

- Anti-tank compagnies

- Reconnaissance squadrons

- Parachute battalions

- Chinese aviation

- Royal Air Force

- Marine riflemen

- Divisions mines

... All over the world, military groups wore a badge designed by Walt Disney. Allied combat units came out to fight with Mickey, Donald, Dingo, Pluto and the others figures of Disney, represented on their plane, boat and armored vehicles.

Disney always rhymes with fairy tales, where kisses and scenes of tenderness show every age and every mores. Thus, at the appearance of White-Snow in 1937, the big question asked on a kiss … or not !

In every age corresponds a way of kissing, and Walt Disney didn’t want hustle the convention on this subject. But finally, a kiss took place, although it was very, very chaste.

But which are thus, the most beautiful kisses of Walt Disney ?

325]
·
The most Famous =>
The
Lady and The Vagabond
(1955)

525]= This is them who invented the fashion of Spaguetti-kiss !

325]
·
The longest =>
Pocahontas
(1995)

525]= Because it’s a picture more modernized ; mores have changed !

325]
·
The Jazziest =>
The Aristocats
(1970)

525]= It’s on a roof, in Paris that the distinguished Duchesse was falling in live with Thomas O’Malley, the alley cat.

!!!An Animal kissing is difficult to stage because it’s shots of tongues or touch of muzzle

Thus we are coming at …

325]
·
The most animal => The 101 dalmatians (1961)

325]
·
The most romantic =>
Cinderella
(1950)

425]= Because it is the charming prince ! The first kiss takes place on the steps of the palace while the second, more enthusiastic, enclosed the film and the scene blends into the last page.

325]
·
The most audacious =>
The Lion King
(1994)

425]= The most beautiful Disney for me !

425]It’s the most audacious because, background of the Elton John’s song « The love shines under stars », it’s Nala, the femalen who takes the first step.

325]
·
The most modern =>
Raiponce
(2010)

425]= Because it is already Raiponce who takes the first step and because ths cartoon isn’t part of logic of wedding.

Walt Disney has cornered a long time the market of the cinema for young public. In fact, it was ths 40’s until the 80’s.

But in the 90’s, a new technology took a lot of place in film production, and mainly, in the field of animation.

à It is the appearance of the films in computer graphics.

… And Walt Disney is not in ! He tried to reconcile whith his audience thanks to sequences of adventures that have made his success (Bambi 2, The Little Mermaid 2, …) but this cartoons lose in quality of content compared to the first, and especially, they didn’t evolve in terms of quality graphics.

In 2006, Walt Disney came back thanks to his alliance with Pixar, a competent and successfull company for this time. Thus, Dreamworks was ths only competitor of Disney now.

The acquisition of Pixar animations studios costed 7.4 billion of american dollars, but whatever ! Now, Walt Disney ownes ths new trend of the computer graphics that appears as the new support (/medium) of the cartoons.

Eventually, we see now, with a step back that the last animated film, with the Pixar’s collaboration, is very sucessfull ! and the last example in date : Up !

Thus Walt Disney had been saving by Pixar and began the XXI century.
