Here are a few hints. No doubt you'll get plenty more.

The pros:

The sales allow poor people to buy clothes and shoes and things they couldn't afford otherwise.

Those who are comfortably off may take the opportunity to buy even more than usual.

The sales give you some sort of excitement which may be welcome if your life is dull.

They can be the opportunity to buy, at a much lower price, presents which you intend to offer months later.

Etc...

The cons:

Since the period is rather short and people feel it would be bad not to take the most of it, they spend a lot of money during the sales, which might put a strain on their budget.

The sales tend to be profitable to supermarkets rather than small shops.

Choice is/may be much less important during the sales than the rest of the year.

Etc...
