Hello !

N'ayant malheureusement personne parlant l'anglais dans mon entourage, cela me sauverait !

Voilà mon résumé:

Today I'm going to speak about the pages 93 to 106 of the book Frankenstein.

1. Situate the passage

Justine, the housekeeper for the Frankenstein family has been arrested for the crime of Victor's brother, William. At the trial, Justine proclaims her innocence but she can't explain how the portrait of William's mother wound up in her pocket. Although Victor thinks that the real murdered is the creature, he does nothing to prove Justine's innocence because he fears to be seen as madman ? Justine is executed for the crime she didn't commit.

 2. Summary of the passage

Frankenstein realises the sorrow he has caused and feels responsible for his brother's and Justine's death. His physical and mental health deteriorates because of this feeling of guilt which prevents him to sleep. He reflects that he had good intentions making his experience but didn't thought that his actions could have so tragic consequences. He plunges progressively into depression. His father notices his son's suffering and try to help him, without success. The entire family retires to their home in Bellerive. Over there Frankenstein spends several hours sailing alone on the lake. This loneliness allows him to think more about his life. He sometimes considers suicide but carry it out by thoughts of Elisabeth, his father and his other brother. He is not the only one to suffer from the recent events, his father becomes ill and Elisabeth is very affected by the tragedy.

Frankenstein leaves his family for a few days to travel alone through the valley of Chamounix for the purpose to forgetting his sorrows. During his expedition he is struck by the beauty of the natural landscape. In this place, he can feel the power of God. This beauty around him calms his soul. This helps him to feel better for a time. When he reaches the village of Chamounix, he manages for the first time to sleep since the tragedy.

Frankenstein spends the following day walking through the valleys near  the sources of the river Arveiron. He is again astounded by the sublime landscape around him. The following day, the lousy weather plunges him one again into a dark melancholy. He decides to go to the summit of Montanvert which he has already admired and whose effects on his soul were beneficial.

When Frankenstein reaches the summit he is immediately moved by the splendour of the landscape. But a few moments later his creature appears. Enraged and filled with a desire of vengeance, Frankenstein decides to have a mortal combat with the monster. The monster is much powerful than Frankenstein and he reminds him. The creature is very calm and speaks with eloquence. He makes Frankenstein responsible of his miserable life because he created him. He argues that he was initially a good person. The acts he committed were only the consequence of his loneliness and of people's hatred towards him.

He persuades Frankenstein to come with him to listen to his story. Frankenstein follows the creature spurred by curiosity and a sentiment of pity for the monster. Both arrive at the monster's hut on the mountain and the monster begins to tell his tale.  The monster explains with which confusion he came into the world. He had to used new sensations as see, fell, hear and smell all at the same time. Looking for shade he went in the forest of Ingolstadt. Over there he also discovers hunger, thirst and suffering. Alone and confused he managed to survive eating berries and drinking from a river. In this place he discovers gradually the new world.

;) Thank you for your help !!!!!!:lol:Je te réponds plus tard dans l'après-midi. JRB

Bonjour, David.

His physical and mental health deteriorates because of this feeling of guilt which prevents him to sleep from sleeping. He reflects that he had good intentions making his experience experiment but didn't thought think that his actions could have so tragic consequences.< Attention à cette faute : c'est l'auxiliaire qui est le marqueur du temps, le verbe reste dans sa forme base (infinitif sans to). He plunges progressively sinks into depression. His father notices his son's suffering and try tries to help him, without success unsuccessfully. The entire family retires to their home in Bellerive. Over there Frankenstein spends several hours sailing alone on the lake. This loneliness allows him to think more about his life. He sometimes considers suicide but carry carries < Idem it out by thoughts of Elisabeth, his father and his other brother. He is not the only one to suffer from the recent events, his father becomes ill and Elisabeth is very affected by the tragedy.

Bonne continuation. :)

Thank you JRB !!!!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP !!!!!:) I wish you a very good evening !
