The notion I'm going to deal with is the notion of progress. In the past, it was impossible to have plastic surgery or to have artificial limbs after an accident and so it was difficult to live after that. But now, we are capable to practice surgery on disfigured people or again the gender selection which permit to remove diseases on embrious. We can also operate on minors. But the progress is it really a good thing? Could we limit the progress?

 

Progress is amelioration, a movement in the front in a domain like the medicine, the technology. So it can be a good thing. I'm going to illustrate this notion with examples of plastic surgery, the e-cigarette and the mobile to see positives and negatives points of progress.

To add to the positive side, the plastic surgery can change people's life if it feel bad inside. For example, persons who has lift ears (= oreilles écartées mais je ne sais pas si c'est comme ça), it's a good opportunity to stop suffer the bullying and so the plastic surgery permit to change lives. There is also the e-cigarette, which is a form of progress of the original cigarette. This new devices is a new wave of trend which can help certain persons to stop smoke. So it's a good opportunity for people who don't arrive to stop the normal cigarette. This electronic cigarette don't has tarmac like the normal cigarette, and it's for that the people prefer it. So the e-cigarette it's a good progress to help people. And there is also a new progress: the mobile. It's a progress which permits to communicate very fasting and it changes our world. With the last advanced, we can now go on YouTube with our Smartphone thanks to the wave which are more and more powerful. So the Smartphone it's a progress very interesting.

For the negative point, we can say that the plastic surgery is very dangerous, because it has to a medical operation and it's very risky, we may either to die or to have more disfigured. Let’s take an example, a girl of 13 years old who had lift ears have done an operation. However, it has been a disaster and she had had one normal ear and one lift ear. About the e-cigarette, the problem is that we don’t know effects and so we don’t know if it’s dangerous. And for the smartphone, the negative point comes from the wave. Because even if it is more and more fast, the wave is more and more dangerous for our elf, it can cause cancer especially with newborn, because wave attack their brain.

So we can see that progress may be a good thing in certain situation, nevertheless it meant much consequently. So we have to have the control and always to handle the situation. For that we need set limits to progress with new rules to avoid ethical problems, like with the CCTV cameras which can watch people in the street always the day, it’s a violation of private life for everybody.

 

To my mind, the progress has to only good and we need to do attention because progress may be dangerous in certain situations. It’s for that I think we have to set limits to progress to control it
