>Who is Edward ? How is he related to the other characters ? (10 words)

Edward Tyler is Ratty and Edith's son.

> Where does the action take place ? (Justify by quoting from the text.)

The story takes place in Dorset, an English country : "Here, in Dorset"

> When does the action take place ?

The story takes place in the early 1940's

>Which wars do the following phrases refer to ? ( justify from the test.)

- The last war

- A funnt old war.

The last war is the First World War (1914-1918)

" written from the trenches"

The funny old war is the Second World War (1939-1945)

"the police invasion" "Battle of Britain" " the Blits in London"

> Which two things help Ratty remember Edward ?

-One of those is especially precious to him. Which one ? Justify bye giving two quotes

- Using your answer in question b), contrast his feeling with his wife's ( 40 words

Ratty remembers Edward thanks to the framed photograph of Edward, and the letters which Edward wrote from the trenches

For Ratty, the letters are more important than the photograph. " Ratty knew most of these letters by heart" " If it hadn't been for Ratty's secret hoarding"

Ratty greatly cherishes the letters of his son while his wife did not take care about them. Ratty thik Edward would have been a good writer but Edith does not seem to think of his son. She refuses to think and therefore shows no interet to him.

> "... a soldier's life..." : what was this life like ? Use your own words. (20 words)

The envelopes have been " mud- splattered". Wa can imagine that Edward lived in the trenches for a long times, with war just beside him.

Edith does not take care to her son's who died during the First World War ; on the contrary for Ratty, Edward is a hero. He seems to be more interesed in war condition life.

>How does the "funny old war, this one" affect their everyday life ? Quote four elements

The 2WW affect everyday life of civilians

- ratioing

- blackouts

- shortages of farm workers

- clock menders

>From an emotional point of view, what does Ratty miss most now ? Quote two elements and us your own words (20 words)

What is missing is a Ratty to talk to his son about the two wars, because he can not have a real conversation with Edith. And he could have grandchildren he could transmeit his knowledge.

> What was Edward's last wish ? Make a sentence. What does it show about his personality. Make a sentence. What consequence does Ewdward last wish imply for Ratty? make a sentence.

The last thing Edward wanted that his father take care of me

Edward was optimism about the future and attentive about his family

Edward asks his father to take care of his mother forever, even if their love goes

> Choose among the following adjectives those which could apply to :

Edith : unpleasant/ loving/caring/warm-hearted/bossy/cold-hearted

Ratty : submissive/unhappy/lonely/aggressive/ cheerful

justify your choice in jour own words

Edith is inpleasant, bossy, and cold-hearted whereas Ratty is submissive/unhappy/lonely.

At the beginning Edith seems authoritarian early when her husband asked her for a cup of tea. she seems to be indifferent to the death of his son While Ratty suffers from the absence of her son and feels very lonely since his wife lives as if her son did not exist. they are very different from one shuts himself in his suffering, and the other wants to talk about his son to succeed to mourn.

>Whose point of view is expressed in the story ?justify your answer with one quote

The story is focused on Ratty "ah !Ratty would have enjoyed..."

>traduire : If Edward had lived -wife and familly nearby, maybe, grandchildren coming to their grandfather to learn the ways of the land- life might have been very different

Si Edward avait survécu - si il s'était marién avait fondé une famille, et peut être, les petits enfants seraient venus voir leur grand père pour apprendre comment on travail la terre- la vie aurait pu être différente.

Bonjour,

En ne joignant pas le texte support, tu nous obliges à travailler en aveugle.

Mais pour autant que je puisse en juger, ton analyse est correcte.

Voila j'ai un DM à rendre et je voulais savoir si les réponses suivantes étaient justes et s'il y a des fautes qu'on me les signale. Merci beaucoup !

>Who is Edward? How is he related to the other characters? (10 words)

Edward Tyler is Ratty and Edith's son. D'évidence, tu ne réponds qu'a la première partie de la question.

> Where does the action take place? (Justify by quoting from the text.)

The story takes place in Dorset, an English county : "Here, in Dorset"

Même si une seule lettre les différencie, ne confonds pas county avec country.

> When does the action take place?

The story takes place in the early 1940's

>Which wars do the following phrases refer to? ( justify from the text.)

- The last war

- A funny old war.

The last war is the First World War (1914-1918)
