MErci d'avance et bon weekend This article is dealing with the importance of the way to package a product to protect it from damages and to emphasize the product itself. According to the article, there are different ways to choose a packaging for a product and different factors like size, type, mean of transport, or where the product is going to go. For example, if products have to go to a manufacturer or a retail depot, they are packaged in crates, cartons or containers. The most important thing is the way to attach the package to avoid any problems during handling operations and transport. The company Crocodile Packaging is specialized in bespoke and reusable packaging which is used by a lot of different fields like cosmetics or electronics. The re-usability is becoming more and more important that’s why they try to think about it at the creation stage, by using wooden crates or plastic boxes. But it is essential to have a good relationship between the seller and the buyer to return packages in the best conditions. The cost of this packaging is higher than a normal one, but the volume necessary to do the same job is less important so the total cost is less expensive. Another progress in this field is the increasing use of folding crates. This kind of container is useful to decrease the space needed to send back them when they are empty. It exists various types to reply to the demand of a product. They are more expensive at the acquisition than a traditional one but the return on investment is very fast. Some companies have also decided to work in this field like Pac 3000 which have invented some famous envelopes designed for home shopping. It is the same case for VP Papier which products go to e-fulfilment companies which sell CDs, DVDs... It offers protection from the wet and protection against damages. One of the major aims for a packaging is to avoid as much as possible movements of a product, to decrease damages. To replace the previous plastic popcorn package, some companies used airbags which are supplied flat, then blow up and placed on the top of the goods to avoid any problems. The other objective of a packaging is to prevent products from thefts, that’s why some companies are using a special tape which indicates when a box have been open. The development of the RFID technology allows to track a product during its supply life, and more and more companies put tags in the packaging. But this technology is still expensive and needs a lot of systems to read them, so it is reserved for the moment for high value products. To conclude, the packaging is becoming more and more important for a product and it needed to be thinking in the same time as the product itself to improve the success of the product.
