After a loss of a clear strategy about its target consumer, the profits of Hi-Style have decreased. After a study of the members of City Associates about this problem, four options appeared to be the best to improve the current situation of the company.

1) The first option called “organic growth” is to allocate up to €10m to new investment in business. Like this, some improvements can be put in place: a better distribution and sales thanks to an agreement with a major retailer, launch of new products with good ad policy, improve its image by employing brand development consultants and employing a top retailing executive to run the business efficiently.

2) The second one is to acquire the company Smartwear Ltd based in Birmingham. This company makes work clothes like uniforms for bank staff and flight attendants with a very interesting design. The sales agents of the company have a good network in Europe, Asia and even with Indian manufacturers. However few months ago, the company had bad press about working conditions in overseas factories. The price of the acquisition is around €10m.

3) Another option could be acquire the company named Tan Clothing which is a company based in the Far East which makes uniforms and footwear for the armed forces. Unfortunately, the company is facing problems because of its family members who disagree about who have to own the company. The price of the acquisition is around €10m.

4) The last option is to improve the Research and Development department. In fact, with such policy, the company can create new products like clothes which can alter their colour or warm clothing for cold climates. At least, five areas of develop can be follow, it allows a refreshment of the image of the company. We have estimated that the company has to invest between €10m-€12m to show significant results.

Conclusion

By applying one of these options, Hi-Style will improve significantly its profits in a short period. However, the company has to invest first a substantial amount of money (€10m-€12m).

Recommendations

1) City Associates recommend using in priority the option n°1. In fact, with this option the company won’t loss is image of a fashionable clothing company with competitive prices. Moreover with this solution, some of the most important processes of the company are going to be improved like distribution, so it is a long term option.

2) The second choice of City Associates is the last option. Thanks to it, the company will be considered as an innovative company which is always a good thing at the eyes of the consumers.
