Los Angeles is situated in a fantastic Mediterranean climate with an average annual local temperature at 18,86°C. In the summer, temperatures can exceed 32°C ! Rains occurs mainly in the winter and spring months with 15 inches (385 mm) of precipitation per year and snow is extraordinarily rare. What a fantastic weather, no ? Like the other big cities, Los Angeles is covered in smog because there is a lot of traffic, so, a lot of pollution. L.A. is divided into many neighborhoods but they are also several independant cities in and around Los Angeles. Los Angeles is divided into nine areas : Downtown Los Angeles, Northeast, the Eastside, South Los Angeles, the Harbor Area, Hollywood, Wilshire, the Westside and the San Fernando and Crescenta Valleys. If you like the diversity, you should go to Los Angeles ! Did you know ? Every city has his history, and the history of Los Angeles is very particular. Los Angeles was fonded on the 4th of September in 1781 and was named "El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los ángeles Del Río de Porciúncula " (The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels on the River Porciúncula). Los Angeles was a spanish city but Americans took control from the Californios after a series of battles, on the 13th January, 1847 with the signing of the Treaty of Cahuenga. By 1900, the population had grown to 102 000 people. In 1932, with a population surpassing one million, the city hosted the Summer Olympic Games and in 1984 for the second time ! During 1980s, Los Angeles was plagued by increasing gang violence and police corruption. If you want to know everything about the history of the City, why don't you go to Los Angeles ? How can I go to Los Angeles ? To go to Los Angeles, it's better to take the plane. There are six airports in L.A., more than any other city in the world. The main airport is "Los Angeles International Airport". To go to Los Angeles by plane is very expensive. The price is about $1000 per person. You have to know the airport is at about 20 kms of the downtown. To arrive to your hotel, there are a lot of taxis and buses. You can go to Los Angeles by boat too, but only if you live in Asia because you'll have to go across the Pacific Ocean. To go to USA, you have to know formal procedures available in our website. Of course, Hollywood is the thing to see, the place where many famous people live. There are famous beaches too like Santa Monica or Venice Beach. You can see the neighbourhood where a lot of films are realized : Beverly Hills. There are nine museums in L.A. and the most famous is the Los Angeles County Museum Of Art (LACMA). This museum shows the history of art with pictures and works of painters. We advise you to see the Getty Center. With 10 000 visitors per day, it shows the famous Saint Barthelemy (Rembrandt). The road 66 is very particular and proposes fantastics landscapes during 4000 kms. You'll go abroad immeasurable deserts and plains. Be careful to don't sleep driving ! Selection of Events There are a lot of festivals in L.A. , like the others big cities of California : - Chinese New Year and Golden Parade : the biggest festival for asians (At the end of January to March) - Cinco de Mayo : the biggest festival for mexicans (May, 5th) - International Surf Festival : on the beaches of the West Coast (at the end of July) - International Festival of Masks (the first Sunday of October) - Halloween (October, 31st) - Dia de los Muertos (The Day of Deads) : festival for mexicans (November, 2nd) - Hollywood Christmas Parade : festival with a lot of famous people (the Thursday after Thanksgiving) Food and Drinks There are a lot of meals in L.A. : Mexicans, Japaneses, Chineses and of course Californians. French Dip Sandwiches : It's the speciality of the city. It's a sandwich with bullock created by a french immigrant one century ago. The Breakfast : For Americans, it's a very important meal. They often eat orange juice, hash browns, pancakes, french toasts, scrambled of fried eggs and bacon. The Brunch : The Saturday and Sunday morning, it's tipical to take a brunch. There are a lot of restaurants made to take brunch at 10.30 a.m. in Los Angeles. Meet and fishes : The bullock is very eaten.
