Merci beaucoup.

Let America be America again

I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil. I am the worker sold to the machine. I am the Negro, servant to you all. I am the people, humble, hungry, mean-- Hungry yet today despite the dream. Beaten yet today--O, Pioneers! I am the man who never got ahead, The poorest worker bartered through the years. Yet I'm the one who dreamt our basic dream In the Old World while still a serf of kings, Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true, That even yet its mighty daring sings In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned That's made America the land it has become. O, I'm the man who sailed those early seas In search of what I meant to be my home-- For I'm the one who left dark Ireland's shore, And Poland's plain, and England's grassy lea, And torn from Black Africa's strand I came To build a "homeland of the free. (1938)

Bonjour Keira et bienvenue sur le site. :)

O, I'm the man who sailed those early seas In search of what I meant to be my home-- For I'm the one who left dark Ireland's shore, And Poland's plain, and England's grassy lea, And torn from Black Africa's strand I came To build a "homeland of the free. (1938)

1-Who is I in the poem of Langston Hughes. Why do you think he chose to speak in the first person.

ma réponse: In the poem I is Langston and often the Black man. He chose to speak in the first person <for> to mark the mind and people.<(jamais for devant un infinitif)

=> Pas seulement.

2- What does the title imply? Consider the date when it was published.

ma réponse: The title implies <(sujet singulier = S au verbe) that America must continue to welcome immigrants and help all immigrants.

3- Hughes was an African-American poet. Does he express the resentment of African-Americans only?

ma réponse: He does not only express the resentment of African-Americans but of all immigrants. => OK

Revois tes sources historiques.

5- Is the poet bitter or hopeful? ma réponse: The poet is hopeful because he wears <(?) the symbol of <the> freedom and embodies the American dream.<(qu'as-tu voulu dire ? ce n'est pas clair)

6- what is the role of the poet in a society? ma réponse: A poet can bring<s> <(toujours Base Verbale après un modal, toujours) peace, respect, tolerance through a poem. A poet can influence people through a poem. He can bring<s> <(idem) hope and <do dreams> make people dream. He can influence people through his ideas. He describes <the> society as <she> it is and often gives <(sujet singulier = S au verbe. Bis !) his opinions. He can guide people to make up their minds.

Dommage !

7- What did the pursuit of happiness mean to the early immigrants, to the Irish in the 1850's, to the African-Americans in the 1930's? What does it mean to the Cubans and Mexicans and to the Asians who have arrived more recently? ma réponse: est-ce l'espoir d'une vie meilleur de trouver un job d'avoir un salaire?
