The television occupies an important place in our homes today. Except sleep, it is our main occupation and structures our everyday life.

The children are not the biggest consumers of television. On 2002, 4-14 years at it, on average, more than half an hour at least a day than the teenagers and the old adults of 15 years and more. But it is not enough to mean that the television influences itself result: we observe no significant difference between big and small consumers of television. On the other hand, the way of watching TV would play a role. Indeed, it is especially in situations of late listening that the television practice influences negatively on the progress of the schooling to the school.

The important is not to look little or a lot the television but to regulate its custom by avoiding the moments which can be unfavourable for the schooling. The practices on the subject are socially marked :a quarter of the children of executives or teachers were registered as big consumers (at least 4 hours a day on average) against 45 % of the children of unskilled workers. If all the children or almost have the television, the custom is very differentiated according to the environment social: the television is often switched on or always during the day in near a labor home on two while only a family of executive or intermediate profession on four knows the same situation.
