J'aimerais si possible avoir une aide pour la correction et en ce qui concerne la pertinence des propos s'il vous plaît. Merci d'avance ! THE WRITER IN HIS TIME Intro : My presentation will deal with the theme The writer in his time. Some writers don't hesitate criticizes their own society through their work in expressing their way of thinking under the form of movie, story, song... We may wonder : How do writers reveal society through their work ? To answer this question I have chosen to talk about an extract from The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the song Blowin' In The Wind by Bob Dylan and the song Strange fruit sung by Billie Holiday which is my personal document. Development : The first document I have chosen is a text taken from the novel The Great Gatsby written by Francis Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. The Great Gatsby is set in New York City during the Prohibition era The novel allowed Fitzgerald to capture a time of excess. Through his characters, we are shown a world of money, of class and power. It's an era that Fitzgerald dubbed “the Jazz Age” due to the importance of music. Gatsby’s parties are typical for this time period. These parties reflects the writer's feelings about the upper class : admiration, jealousy and moral judgment. The novel presents several of its characters like Jay Gatsby as having the illusion of living the “American dream". Gatsby devotes his life to accumulating riches. For the author, the Jazz Age was a beautiful time with creativity and exuberance but also there was a form of corruption in the relations between people because of superficiality. This novel is a reflection of his own life. I will now move on to my second document which is a protest song named Strange Fruit written by Lewis Allan in 1937 and sung by Billie Holiday in 1939. ‘Strange Fruit’ is a song about the lynching of black people in Southern America in the first half of the 20th Century. It came to symbolize the brutality and racism of the practice of lynching. At a time when political protest was not often expressed in musical form, the song was revolutionary. The three short verses are powerful for their ironic language. The juxtaposition of the beautiful landscape, the scents of flowers and fruits, with the blood and broken bones of human beings brutally beaten gives a powerful and poignant feeling to the song. Bob Dylan cites the song as a personal inspiration. As Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan chose the music to express his feelings. He wrote Blowin' in the wind, a protest song in 1962. The first performance of this song was in the midst of the Vietnam War. “Blowin’ in the Wind” was a perfect song for that time. The song was very thought-provoking, raising questions of peace, freedom, morality in the world, the importance of war, oppression, and human rights. Dylan answers all of his questions with the repeated phrase, "The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind." It simply means that the answer is there, and we know that it is there; we can feel it, but we just can't see it. With this song, Bob Dylan tries to send a call for freedom. Conclusion: To sum up, I think the three authors of these documents reveal the society of their time. With his novel, Fitzgerald depicted the society of the 1920's in America and criticizes the superficiality of this time. Billie Holiday and Bob Dylan express their feelings with protests songs. In Strange Fruit there is a denunciation of racism and lynching of Black people in Southern America in the first half of the 20th century. And in Blowin' in the Wind, Bob Dylan denounces the war and violence in the 60's.

La LELE est l'acronyme donnée à la matière de Littérature étrangère (Littérature Étrangère en Langue Étrangère) À ma connaissance, un acronyme et un sigle ne s'écrivent qu'en majuscules, ce qui explique ma question.
