Correction Simple past or continuous past ?

J'aurais besoin de vous pour corriger cet exercice s'il vous plaît, où il faut mettre au simple past ou au continuous past...

- Mr James S killed (kill) his wife in a dream yesterday night.

He was dreaming (dream) that his daughter who was sleeping (sleep) in the same room was (be) attacked by robbers and he fired (fire) on them, with the result that he killed (kill) his wife.

- Yesterday Mr S., his wife and their two daughters went (go) to bed as usual about 10. Towards midnight Mr S. though (think) he heard (hear) the window open. Turning over, he saw (see) two masked men enter the room with knives. One was going (go) and was standing (stand) over the daughter. In frantic terror Mr S. was firing (fire) the pistol which he clutched (clutch) in his hand beneath the pillow. Switching on the light he saw (see) that blood was trickling (trickle) from his wife's head. He then was realizing (realize) he had been dreaming but his wife was (be) dead.
