Bonjour, je fais un exposé en anglais, est ce que vous pouvez me corriger svp...

The application of pesticides on crops is necessary to prevent unacceptable losses of agricultural production. However, the use of these products may pose a risk to the health of farmers and the personnel responsible for handling, mainly in case of errors.

I / Pesticides

The term pesticide covers a wide range of substances or mixtures of substances which serve to eliminate, reduce or repel different types of pests. These products are categorized according to the type of pest against which they are supposed to address, for example:

· insecticides are used against insects.

· herbicides against weeds.

· fungicides against fungi and molds.

· rodenticides against rodents.

· molluscicides against the snail.

Most pesticides are toxic and can cause health problems.

France is the first European user of pesticides with nearly 75 000 tonnes prevalent in our fields. Result: 80% of our rivers and 57% of groundwater is so polluted by pesticides.

II / labeling / classification

Classification and labeling of pesticides are made based on risk.

All countries do not use the same classification system, however, the classification of the WHO World Health Organization is used by many countries:

· Class Ia: Extremely dangerous

· Class Ib Highly Hazardous

· Class II: Moderately hazardous

· Class III: Slightly hazardous

MSDS (Safety Data Sheet) is an information sheet prepared by the manufacturer of a pesticide that describes the chemical properties of the product, the type of risk associated with its use, precautions and procedures emergency (spill, fire or other).

III / explosion

Farmers and all people in their environment can be contaminated with pesticides during the following operations:

· Blending / Filling

· Application (spraying)

· Purchase, transport and storage

· Maintenance of equipment

· Spill

· Elimination

The persons around you as much as you may be contaminated!

Explosion risk is particularly high when the pesticide is concentrated or when you are near the product during the following operations:

• Open containers

• Mixing

• Filling

• Spraying

IV / Cycle pesticides

Pesticides used in the fields can be found in the atmosphere and in stormwater ...

V / pesticides are dangerous

Pesticides can enter the body in three ways:

· By the skin

· By breathing

· For the ingested food

The toxic effects of pesticides on humans, especially on the agricultural population most exposed are:

· higher rate of cancer

· Parkinson's Disease

· Neurological Disorders

· Increased risk of miscarriage.

· Cancer

· Congenital

· Infertility Problems

· Neurological Problems

· weakened immune system

VI / pesticides in food

We are all exposed to pesticides since these substances are directly from our plates: 52% of fruits and vegetables in which we Croquons contain pesticide residues, including 7.6% above the allowable limits (MRLs) *

* MRLs (maximum residue limits): maximum quantities of pesticide residues permitted in a given food.

Children because of their diet and their specific sensitivity to chemical pollutants are particularly at risk from pesticides.

VII / Foods to Avoid for consumption

Analyzes the DGCCRF 2008 on pesticide residues in products of plant origin on the market show that:

41.3% of vegetables contain pesticide residues and an average of 7.2% are non-compliant. Overruns mainly concern Peppers, tomatoes, leeks, lettuce and spinach.

70.3% fruits contain pesticide residues and an average of 8.5% are non-compliant. Overruns are mainly strawberries, tangerines and grapes.

8.2% of cereals and cereal products analyzed have higher rates of non-compliant residues.

No non-compliance was detected on processed products, feed products for animals, infant food products, teas, infusions, coffee and spices.

Some fruits and vegetables containing pesticides are imported but unregistered or banned in France: 103 tons of illegal pesticides were found in the hexagon in 2008.

The objective of the Grenelle de l'Environnement is 50% reduction in pesticide within 10 years, according to a survey (October 2008).

conclusion

Eating organic is currently the best solution for reducing pesticides in our food, but unfortunately it does not allow us to avoid them altogether since some pesticides applied to fields is found in the atmosphere and in stormwater. Despite this, or organic products grown by farmers using no or very little insecticides is currently the best way to protect our health even if these products are more expensive to buy.
