Merci d'avance. Valentina

Valentina115 Posté(e) le 16 avril 2012 Auteur Signaler Posté(e) le 16 avril 2012 Dear diary, Despite of the deplorable conditions, we remain optimistic. Giovanni made a very good friend, Maureen and her brother Ernest. They are Irish. It’s really funny because Giovanni doesn’t speak English but people talk together in spite of the language barrier. Polish, French, Swedish, Deutch, Italian tries to keep smiling but we’re all homesick.

Je te donne le début et la fin " Dear Diary, In 4 hours I’ll be in the boat to the USA. This country looks really great ,so, we decided to leave Italy. There are lots of publicity about the “Americain Dream”. I don’t really know what is it but I hope they are true! It’s my last chance because I cannot work and eat. There is no money there, Italy became poor. I leave with two friends, Giovanni and Libero, I think it’s more careful, and my wife. I’m impatient but also anxious and I’m scared of failing and I cannot sleep. 7h00 I’m heartbroken because I leave my country and all my past. I hope come back here with more money, but I’m not sure and it scares me. A man calls all immigrants. We are hundreds. How will we all get on board? I know it will not be luxury but with I’ve always been lucky… I wanna run away bu I cannot. 9h00 I’m on board with my wife and my friends. Conditions are worse than I had imagined. We’re crowded like cattle. We have only coverage for my with and me, and we sleep we sleep on wooden boards. There are lot of men. Children cry, scream, vomit because it’s filthy and stinky. Most of us are seasick. It’s appalling, and it’s only the beginning, we will stay here for 23 days. I cannot write, the ship moves too. Dear diary, Conditions on board are worse day by day and also the health of some. Giovanni is sick but we do not what he has. Tonight, Libero and me have organized a party to cheer immigrants up. We will arrive in New-York the 08 may, I’m impatient. May, 08 1910 We’re in New York. Communities stay together. We’re lot of Italian south or neapolitain. We take tests. The first is “the six-second medical exam” as they call it. We must show that we are strong and healthy to be useful to the country. 11h40 We have passed the tests. For the second we have to write and read. And after we had to answer a series of questions: our final destination in the United States, how much money we had and if we were joining relatives and whatnot. I lied when I said I had enough money and we knew someone in the U.S. I was afraid for Giovanni because he was never going to school and he was sick. His eyes were dig with fatigue and he was coughing all the time. Finally, he succeeded tests. We are relieved and very happy. We will settle in a borough of N-Y “Little Italy” with Maureen and Ernest. May, 15 1910 I finished work. Giovanni and me found a job in a Italian restaurant. Libero and Ernest have left us to work in mines in the south. Maureen and my wife work in this restaurant like waitress. They are really good friends now. The Italian borough is very poor. We live in a 6 storey building, some sleep in warehouse. For Americains we are “the Italians”, and they thinks we are violent. The life is worse than in Italy but we eat our fill. This is the main. December, 13 1917 Dear diary, I had lost you but I found you. Now, I have 3 boys, that americains nicknamed Dom, Vince and Joe. I’m proud because the vision of American has changed. We’re not longer “the Italian” at least here. Yes, we moved to California. Maureen and Giovanni were married and sometimes we see Ernest and Libero they’re healthy. We leave well, but I didn’t realize my American Dream, maybe later. I wish transmit this diary for my sons. I would like them to know what I felt when I got there. Pending, I play baseball with them maybe one day they become the superstars of baseball. I like my new life but I’m homesick and we return in Italy soon. To my Italy, my wife, my son Dom, Vince and Joe DI MAGGIO and the next child maybe. Giuseppe DI MAGGIO. MERCI D'AVANCE 1er paragraphe corrigé : Dear Diary, In 4 hours I’ll be in the ship to the USA.
