REVOLT IN LIBERIA

This is an article extract from the English newspaper « The Sun » dated of Tuesday, August 5, 2003. It talks about the situation in Liberia by a factice dialogue between the journalist Andy and somebody who want to learn more about the situation in this country. We can learn the African country of Liberia has been in Civil War for 3 years, due to important tension between the president accused of many atrocities and rebels. That’s why The War Crimes Tribunal issued a warrant for his arrest. Locals have poor condition of life. Hope of peace is weak except if Taylor resigns. U.S. forces are ready to intervene and U.K. has sent humanitarian aid.

I have chosen this article because it shows, in an original presentation not used in France, the terrible situation in Liberia, situation that has been hidden until today.

DEATH TO THE WEST

It is an article from The Sun dated of Thursday, August 7, 2003 and written by Martin Phillips. It describes different terror groups and what is known about them. We can learn that all terror groups are very close and they are often linked with Al Qa’Ida. They share the same ideas: U.S. and western countries are their enemies, the creation of Israel state has judged like a provocation, their motivations are based on religion. They have existed for a long time and they organised many attacks all over the world (US, Beirut, Philippines) but always against western people. I’ve chosen this article because it describes the organisation of terror groups, and their implication in different attack. I have now a better vision of these groups.

MUM AND GIRL, 3, IN SUICIDE HORROR

It is an article from “News of the World” dated of August 3, 2003 written by Amanda Evans. It talks about a mother and her daughter involved in a probable suicide. The mother died, her daughter is fighting for her life. Policemen were criticized because they received calls from neighbours but they did nothing. On a call, they didn’t move even when a neighbour heard a strange noise. An inquiry has been hold in order to determine police actions and to determine if it was an accident, a suicide or a murder. Everybody was very shocked. I have chosen this article because it shows us the terrible reality, how a mother can commit suicide and try to kill her daughter.

CHILDREN QUIZ NASA ASTRONAUTS IN SPACE

It is an article from “The Bath Chronicle” dated of Thursday August 7 2003 written by Tamsin Davis. It describes the fantastic opportunity that had schoolchildren, parents and villagers to speak with NASA astronauts aboard ISS. They could speak during ten minutes about astronauts’ life and work. This interview belongs to Neston Primary School Science Project indeed the pupils have been studying space themes and space station. A huge fund has just given to the school to help her space project. I have chosen this article because it think it is a fantastic history, those kids had an unforgettable occasion to speak with astronauts, they were lucky.
