This document is a review of the book « L’école des ouvriers » written by Paul Willis. It deals with the culture of the working class.
The books written by Paul Willis in 1977 reflects the current situation in England. That’s a very important text of the Culture studies, a train of though born with many authors. Their work is also appreciated in France. They study the style of life of the working class.
That’s what Paul Willis told in his book. Over 15 years, he followed workers son ( C'est un terme dans mon texte que j'aimerai bien réutiliser celui de fils d'ouvrier mais je ne sais pas si cela convient ?) in all their activities at school then at work. Indeed, they had left the school at 16 years old to go work. Paul Willis so wanted to know the reason of this abandonment.
He also discovered that there is a anti-school culture in working class. The boys build and affirm their identity in manual labor and reject an intellectual work. They find it too female and acquire in same times their liberty.
So, Paul Lewis declare that the working class participate at their own domination. That’s due to their culture impregnated by racism and sexism. Thus, the report of the working culture is very critical.
