According to me, a succesfull life is when you have done everything that you wanted to do. For instance, succeed in your exams and studies, meet lots of friends, having a girlfriend / boyfriend, having a rewarding job are the things that I hold dearly in my heart.
Furthermore, traveling is a good way to become more open minded, visiting beautiful cities, big mountains, and even the fact of learning how other people live is really interesting.
Finally, It may depends by the persons. But I think most of the time, it's when you have no regrets and no remorses, and somehow when you're happy of you're life...
